The Queen's Justice

Author: GrrmGirl / Labels: , , , , , , , , , , ,

OH MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

This episode - tempers flaring, fighting, armies, Cersei being a total hag, forces being wiped out, hope fading, many where do I even begin?!

The meeting of Ice and Fire took place and it was chilly, to say the least. Dany got all arrogant and condescending towards Jon and Davos. Loved how Tyrion was trying to do his best at damage control and how Davos more or less gave one of the best speeches - 'If we don't set our enmities aside, then it won't matter who's skeleton sits on the Iron Throne' - the man has a point. So Dany wants Jon to bend the knee, Jon is not going to do so and they are at an impasse. However, I rather got the impression that they were sizing each other up and quite frankly, checking each other out.

Cersei gets her gifts from Euron: Ellaria and Tyene Sand. Yara stands there, bloodied, beaten and chained. The mob in the throne room jeer and taunt the Snakes. Cersei's face is a mask of hatred. Euron Greyjoy makes it very clear what he wants from Cersei Lannister and even makes lewd remarks to Jaime about it. What's worse is the revenge she exacts on Ellaria: she taunts her in the dungeon then kisses Tyene, poison laced on her lips. The horror knowing that Ellaria is powerless to stop the poison from working on Tyene must be a mother's nightmare. She's forced to watch her daughter die a terrible, slow death. Personally, I was more disgusted with the scene right after with the Lannister twins. Ugh!

The Iron Bank is in town to collect their money. Wouldn't you just know, Cersei is acting all like she Tywin or something. Whatever, Cersei. You're nowhere NEAR the intellect of your late father. You're egotistical, mentally depraved and power hungry. You make rash decisions instead of waiting and biding your time, replenishing your resources. She promises the Iron Bank their money within two weeks' time. We all know Lannisters pay their debts but I'm kind of hoping that there's going to be a serious kink in Cersei's plans because this monster has to go down and she needs to be stripped of her power, her wealth and all her resources. BIG TIME.

Bran returns to Winterfell. It's a bittersweet reunion - Bran is no longer Bran, but the Three Eyed Raven and Sansa has great difficulty understanding the full meaning of his role. Of course, count on Littlefinger, who's ever present, to try and stir shit up. He tries to counsel Sansa and she is shutting him down at every opportunity. Finally! Bran reveals that he now has visions - he can see things that have passed - both pleasant and disturbing.

Plans to take Highgarden are in full force. Randyl Tarly and his army take the castle along with Jaime Lannister. The Unsullied get a hollow victory by taking Casterly Rock but unfortunately, more of their ships are damaged or burned by Euron's forces. Damn it! Dany has suffered some pretty bad losses. With the Lannister forces approaching, Olenna looks out her window and knows the end is near. All I'm going to say is that at the very end, Lady Olenna Tyrell basically made Jaime look like a chump. She insulted him over and over again and he sat there and took it. She chugged that poisoned wine LIKE A CHAMP.

Who else wins at death? Nobody - Lady Olenna made death her bitch. She also made Jaime her bitch. Insulting Cersei, calling her a disease and that Jaime is a fool. Oh yeah, let's not forget that she saved the best for last. Who else gets to drop a bomb - "I killed your son. Tell Cersei it was me" - and goes out LIKE A BOSS?! You don't get to being in your 80s in Westeros by being a fool or weak willed.

RIP Lady Olenna Boss Ass Bitch Tyrell, the OG of Westeros.

Hoping to see Sandor, the Brotherhood or Bronn soon!

So, we're all over the place with this season. With budget constraints and a time line to follow, plots are amping up at warp speed. Dany and Company discuss where to go, how to go about it and plans are set in motion.

Now, even though Tyrion is a fan fave and I adore him (he's my fave character, tied with Arya) - he's a political guy and great at reading people and sniffing out plots BUT he doesn't really have the military training. I know that Jaime has the upper hand here.

Now, interesting because I think seeing Sam operate on Jorah, that's going to set two wheels into motion: Sam is going to be successful in curing Jorah and Jorah will make his way to Dany. A win win if you ask me. And of course, we are treated to Missandei and Grey Worm as they consummate their relationship. And I am all for the portrayal of two characters in love. This is, after all, Game of Thrones: people die at any given moment and war rages at every possible corner of Westeros. Seeing a little happiness is a good thing and should be embraced.

Now, we see the Sand Snakes, Lady Olenna and the Greyjoys supporting Dany in her quest to take King's Landing - but Dany is counselled not to go straight for the kill, but utilize a more subtle approach: the Dothraki and Unsullied will go to Casterly Rock and take it while the Tyrell army and the Greyjoy fleet take King's Landing and lay siege to the city. But it's the sage advice from Lady Olenna to Dany - 'Are you a sheep? No. You're a dragon. BE a dragon,' that sets up some pretty serious foreshadowing.

Jon receives two missives from Sam (about the huge amount of Dragon glass on Dragonstone Island) and Tyrion (asking that he come to see Dany and possibly align himself with her). Jon is going, and much tot he chagrin of his bannermen and Sansa, he decides to head to Dragonstone with Ser Davos in tow. Sansa is left in charge of Winterfell in her absence.

Arya meets Hotpie at the Inn at the Crossroads and after scarfing down some pie and ale (a nod to the Hound if you ask me) she finds out that House Bolton is dead and Winterfell is back under the rule of House Stark. The look on her face when Hotpie was telling her all this good news was one of shock. No more going to King's Landing - she turns left and heads north. Along the way, she encounters a pack of direwolves, and one in particular, has grown to three times its' size. The heart breaking reunion between Arya and Nymeria is fleeting BUT I for one am happy that Nymeria is alive, well and leading her own pack of what looked like about 8 direwolves. She's on the prowl for Frey or Lannisters in the Riverlands. Nymeria and Arya have both spent so much time apart that they both recognize they are wild and free - nothing will change that. Nymeria just can't be a pet to Arya. Arya can't be a little lady doing needle point. "That's not you." An homage to Season One, to the time when her father had that famous chat about what Arya will do when she grows up. Nymeria and Arya part and the sounds of hearts breaking was collectively felt around the world.

It sounded good BUT......we all knew Dany wouldn't be able to take King's Landing or take over the Seven Kingdoms that easily. We need to see Dany and Co. go through some horrendous losses, to see Cersei score one victory after another, in order for fans to built to a fever pitch to the point where we're all losing out minds over it.

Euron completely obliterates Yara, Theon, Ellaria and the Sand Snakes. Two of them are killed ruthlessly and Yara taken prisoner. Theon is caught between a rock and a hard place. No matter what he did, he was screwed. No reinforcements, nobody to help him, under experienced, ships burning all around him and watching in horror as Euron's men are slitting the throats, cutting out teeth and tongues of the dying soldiers from Yara's and Theon's crew. He jumps overboard, after having a bad attack of PTSD.

He lives today, he has the chance to get back to Dany, Tyrion and Varys in order to regroup and plan another attack. Enough with all the Theon hate already.

I shut down about four people on Instagram with some very well thought out, eloquently written responses. Live today, fight for tomorrow!

JUNE!!!

Less than a month away!!

Trailers and leaks are dropping like crazy! Fans are going nuts! Can't wait!

Speculation??

Author: GrrmGirl / Labels: , , , ,

So, the teaser trailer offered us a small glimpse into what could potentially happen in Westeros.

Does Jon truly want to sit on a throne?

Will Dany reclaim what is rightfully hers, even though she has not lived in Westeros for many, many years?

And what is up with Cersei? Taking that throne because all of her children are dead? Setting fire to the Sept and blowing everyone and everything in it to the high heavens? Well, that's one way of getting rid of your competition. Not the best way, but for Cersei, the most dastardly and effective.

Lots of fan threads going crazy with regards to the characters' clothing, the thrones they respectively sit on and what this all means for the Seven Kingdoms.

Anyone, but Cersei, should sit on the Iron Throne.

She'll be worse than the Mad King.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Stark Sibling Reunion in da house!!

Marg and the High Sparrow talking.

Sansa, Marg and Yara being Boss ASS BITCHES.

Brothers gearing up for way.

Scumbag Baelish lying as per usual.

Robyn Arryn is an idiot.

Dany is burning down the house. LITERALLY.

Tormund and Brienne NEED TO HAPPEN.

Jaqen's BACK!!!!

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , ,

YES!

Women all over the realm are rejoicing that our favourite Faceless man is BACK!

What's up with Sansa?! Is she playing at being still so clingy and naive or is she playing up to Littlefinger? Hopefully she is turning to the dark side and learning to use her feminine wiles to hide a more devious side.

Arya + Jaqen = AWESOMENESS.

Jon and Sam = the Men in Black.

Dany......I just don't know what to say about you anymore. You're lost, confused and not doing a very good job at ruling people that you quite frankly don't know and don't understand. This is what happens when you are ignorant and try to carry out something noble. Without doing your background work and learning about the people you mean to rule, it blows up right in your face. Hell, your dragons don't want anything to do with you.

I am totally loving the Tyrion and Varys roadshow.

Bronn!!!!!!

Dear Cersei: KARMA.

Am I forgetting anything else?!

SOOOO looking forward to Margaery and Tommen getting married. And hopefully seeing more of sassy Grandmother Olenna. BOOM

Littlefinger & Lysa: A Match Made in...

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Hell.

Those two are just so evil, and they totally deserve each other! Fans finally find out just exactly who murdered poor Jon Arryn.....his darling, devoted wife, Lysa Arryn. And how she basically started the lies and the machine that created hostilities between House Stark and Lannister.

Can we say 'green eyed monster?' Not for a second did I believe anything that came out of her mouth when she was speaking to Sansa, who will be going by Alayne. How convenient that Lysa and Petyr are together now, and we find out that long ago, they had been intimate with each other. Except that Lysa is a poor substitute for Catelyn and (ew) Sansa. And HOW creepy was it to watch Lysa flip out on Sansa?! Jealous, much? Controlling and insecure, hmm that sounds like the Lady of the Vale. Although, I have to say that I am finally starting to warm up to Sansa. She is learning the value of deception. If she can continue to lie and put on one heck of a performance, then perhaps she will start to develop a love of intrigue. And get good at it.

And how about Cersei, sucking up to Margaery, Tywin and....Oberyn (!). It doesn't take much to realize why....because she wants Tyrion dead and also because (gasp!) House Lannister NEEDS House Tyrell on their side. Something about the Iron Bank of Braavos. I wouldn't want to be in debt to them, that's for sure.

They sound pretty omninous.

Dany staying behind makes sense, as she needs to rule those she means to liberate and show that she can and will develop good leadership and diplomatic skills. You have to wonder how it is that the folks in King's Landing are made aware of her every move....hm, perhaps there is a spy in her midst?

Hopefully Tommen and Margaery get married REAL soon. As for Arya, loved the water dance sequence but totally disliked the Hound for smacking her. I have a feeling that the next batch of episodes are going to get really interesting....

Vamps, Villains & Victors

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , ,

Who do you consider to be the sexiest vamp on Game of Thrones?

Who, in your humble opinion, is the most dastardly of men, in the Seven Kingdoms?

Who do you think will reign supreme and come out on top - proving many people wrong and perhaps raising a few eyebrows?

I think Margaery is the sexiest vamp to hit the screen. Cunning, lethal and seductive, not only does she know how t play Joffrey like a lute, she dresses to accentuate her womanly curves and titillates with her come hither eyes.

The most vile, dastardly of men....well, this is a tough one! I asked my husband and his answer (right away, without hesitation) was Roose Bolton's bastard, Ramsay Snow.

I agree with his choice. I also want to add Walder Frey and Petyr Baelish in that club, too. Dirty rotten scoundrels! And yet, these men seem to be outlasting a lot of other people!

As for who will come out on top, well, I would love to see this happen: I would love for Arya Stark to somehow, someway, meet up with Dany Targaryen and become a member of her Queen's Guard. In fact, I would love to see those two women team up and have each others' back. Dany with her dragons and Arya with her street smart, assassin savvy skills, well, what more could you ask for?! Well, of course, I would love to add Tyrion Lannister to the mix. He would be the political advisor to Dany Targaryen. That would be SO awesome!

I'd also like to see Jaime say, "Eff you, Cersei!" and never, ever be under her malignant influence again! He should go off in search of Tyrion, beg his forgiveness and restore the bonds of brotherhood. I'd also like to see Jon Snow become the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch with Samwell Tarly by his side, as his most trusted confidant. I'd love to see Margaery rule - through Tommen and have her grandmother at her side as a political force to be reckoned with. BOOYEAH.

I'd like to see Cersei get her JUST DESSERTS. I would also like to see Bran and Rickon reunited with Jon, somehow, someway, with the Reeds, Osha and Hodor intact, too!

I know, I know. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part...

Things Happen in Three's

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

So, we've come to the point where Tyrion and Sansa have now been united in holy matrimony. Or unholy. I guess it depends on how you look at it. I feel for the both of them - being used as political pawns at the behest of Tywin and Joffrey. I really wish Sansa would grow up and start showing a little more maturity - after all, it's Tyrion she's wedded to and not Joffrey. She also needs to develop a sense of cunning and keen wit. How else will she survive?

Joffrey was insufferable, as usual. However, for all the fans that can't stand him: I counsel patience. He will get his soon enough.

I find Shae annoying and a real idiot. When she said "Your father does not rule the world," to Tyrion when the news broke of Tyrion's impending nuptials, I thought what an absolute fool she was! Mind you, I've read the books and I didn't like her character to begin with, so I was on red alert with her.

I totally dug how Lady Olenna was trying to breakdown the very complicated and six degrees of separation relationships that both her grandchildren were going to have through marriage. Classic - she is the female version of Tywin, although her strength does not come from armies or brute force, but from wicked wit, intrigue and knowledge.

Cersei is nothing but a power hungry drunk. Funny, all those times she chastised Robert for drinking, eh? Her little speech to Margaery has really not endeared her to me. Mind you, I never liked Cersei to begin with. She thinks she has power and thinks she has the female gender's interests at heart but she does not. I've never seen a poorer example of a feminist being portrayed. Hence, I don't feel sorry for her and everything that she has coming to her, well, frankly, she deserves. The wedding banquet scene was priceless. I'm glad Tyrion insulted his nephew under the guise of being drunk. Or was he? Was that a spot of acting on Tyrion's part? And Tywin - very cleverly intervening - in order to save face in front of their guests and to disarm Joffrey's sadistic nature - was well timed. Who's playing who, you have to wonder...

Love Arya and the Hound. He doesn't get enough credit. He's kind of like Jaime. You can't stand them both equally and hope they get their just desserts. It's kind of weird - that moment where you actually start to like a character that you couldn't stand previously! The Hound is an observant, deep thinker. Nobody gives him credit.

The introduction of Daario Naharis into the fold is timely. He sure is nice eye candy to look at. I could feel the sparks fly between him and Dany. About time, too! And what about Melisandre? She's freaky! I'm glad Ser Davos is back in the fold, counselling Stannis. Someone needs to have some clarity and common sense where she's concerned! And let us not forget, the ravens, the hut, the dark frigid north and that eerie Weirdwood tree with all the noise from the ravens. And of course, Samwell the Slayer! Samwell has finally broken out of the timid shell. He attacked that White Walker first with his sword (but was unsuccessful), then with the Obsidian. Boo yeah! The White Walker cracked, as if made of glass, and shattered! Awesome! Three cheers for Samwell.

I'm bracing myself for the second wedding, which should take place over the final two episodes.

This wedding is not for the faint at heart - readers of the books will know exactly what I am talking about.

I have a feeling the royal wedding with Joffrey and Margaery will take place next season.

After all, I think Weiss and Benioff want to leave fans shocked, angry and above all, hungry for more!

"X" is for Xaro Xhoan Doxos

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , ,

I didn't really like this character in the books, to be in honest. I found him creepy. I liked him better in the HBO series. But there was something almost 'too good to be true' about him - yes, he was poor and he was starving, so he had to scratch, claw and fight for everything that he had. He was fabulously wealthy but....how did he amass all that wealth?

He certainly didn't hide his desire for Daenerys Targaryen, when she came to his city for help and refuge. I can't say I blame him. She is, after all, beautiful, with that silvery hair and lavender coloured eyes. I'm glad that Ser Jorah Mormont kept cautioning her to not do anything rash. After everything they had been through, it would've been very easy to accept Xaro Xhoan Doxos' marriage proposal and stay in Qarth and rule as his Queen.

But then....we wouldn't have as an exciting storyline for the last surviving Targaryen! That would be no fun and boring! Besides, after a while, I kept thinking that this guy was putting the moves on Dany way too often for my liking. Hm. Was he attracted to her because she was gorgeous? Was it because she was the mother of dragons? Or that she was the last Targaryen alive? Or perhaps it was a combination of all those factors?

Whatever it was, he showed his true colours, once her dragons had been abducted and the coup of the Thirteen had taken place. It seems that Ser Jorah Mormont was right all along. Of course, we know that the second book differed from the second season (there were some changes to the storyline) but all in all, I'm glad that Dany and company kicked Xaro Xhoan Doxos to the curb! Dude, you messed with the wrong woman! So long!

Can't wait to see how powerful Daenerys Targaryen becomes in A Storm of Swords!

"U" is for Undying

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , ,

As in, the House of the Undying. If you read "A Clash of Kings" and watched the HBO series, you'll know that the House of the Undying was portrayed differently.

Daenerys goes through an almost nightmarish type of journey, when wandering through the House. In the series, the warlock Pyatt Pree kidnaps her dragons, in an attempt to lure her and force her to stay in Qarth forever. Big mistake. The mother of dragons was not some little girl that could be bullied and pushed around. In the end, Daenerys found them, got rid of Pyatt Pree and discovered the treachery in Qarth.

"T" is for Targaryen

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , , ,

The only three Targaryens we've actually seen on screen are Viserys, Daenerys and Aemon (who revealed his lineage to Jon Snow towards the end of Season I).

There are some differences in the books. Dany is much younger in the books, for one thing. Her brother is a pompous jerk, for another. But we already knew that. We know that they fled Westeros and came across the Narrow Sea to Pentos, where they sought refuge with Magister Illyrio Mopastis, as wealthy merchant.

We know that their father, the Mad King, Aerys I, was murdered by Jaime Lannister (hence, the nickname 'Kingslayer'). We know that they had an older brother, Rhaegar, who was married to Elia Martell. They had two children. Rhaegar was a melancholy, but studious young man who showed great promise. He was in love with Lyanna Stark. We all know what happens next: the crowing ceremony that took place at a tournament, in which Rhaegar crowned Lyanna Stark the 'Queen of Love and Beauty' instead of his lady wife. Oh, and Lyanna just happened to be engaged to Robert Baratheon at the time. I'm sure that action set more then a few tongues wagging! What happened after is anyone's guess, really. Rhaegar and Lyanna disappeared for quite some time. Tragically, Rhaegar was killed by Robert, after Lyanna had died.

Rhaegar's wife and children were killed by the monster, known as the Mountain that Rides, Ser Gregor Clegane. That filthy and vile man assaulted Elia and killed her, then proceeded to kill the young children. It's no wonder why Targaryen loyalists whisked the two remaining children out of Westeros.

Viserys is a power hungry, condescending man who thinks of nothing but revenge. He wants the Iron Throne back. I'm glad that he didn't get the chance to retake it because his cruel nature and petty character would've translated to worse things, should he have actually sat on the Iron Throne. He would've been a nightmare. I had an inkling the first time I saw Maester Aemon, the first time I caught a glimpse of him at the Wall. Yes, I know he is old and blind, but he had that pale, ethereal quality and I couldn't help but wonder....could this be a long lost Targaryen relative who sought refuge in another part of Westeros? The Wall is a pretty far place to go!

I'm glad that Daenerys was married off to Khal Drogo, because the ancient practice of Targaryens marrying brother to sister is sickening, if you ask me. The idea of incest is so abhorrent!

The Targaryens are known for their pale complexions and silvery white hair, along with blue or lavender coloured eyes. Daenerys sure is a beautiful woman. I'm just sad that she never got the chance to rule with the Dothraki tribe, alongside her husband, who fell ill and died, because of a witch. Her unborn son, Rhaego, died prematurely. It tugged at my heart strings that this poor girl, who had already been through so much, seemed as if she was destined to live a life of sadness and depression.

Daenerys appeared to be a tough cookie, come Season II. If you're anything like me and have read four of the books so far, you'll agree with me that whatever doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger and this adage seems to apply to Daenerys Targaryen. She walked into that funeral pyre at the end of Season I, only to survive and come back out unscathed, with three brand new baby dragons. Season II saw her travelling a great length of the Red Waste, onto Qarth, battling intrigue and deception but hey! She managed to come back out on top!

"D" is for Dothraki

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , ,

The Dothraki are the nomadic tribe of fearsome warriors that we see (and read about) in Game of Thrones. They know how to ride a stallion, charge into battle, wield pretty scary looking swords, daggers, sabres and spears and conquer any civilization that is weak (and unfortunately, in their way).

The leader of the Dothraki tribe is Khal Drogo. In the series, he is played by actor Jason Momoa. He is a tall, powerfully built and sexy as hell warrior. I looked forward to seeing him during season I. His demeanour came across as frightening and dominant, as the same time. His hair was the longest - as is Dothraki custom. Until a warrior is defeated in battle, his hair grows very long. His ponytail was the longest.

The Dothraki roam from one coast to another and live across the narrow sea, far beyond Pentos. They live in the vast lands of Essos, north of the Red Waste. Their chief city is Vaes Dothrak. Their language is particularly difficult to master. Their way of life is almost prehistoric: men rule with an iron fist and women are subservient. It's not a life that I would freely choose. When Khal Drogo married Daenerys Targaryen, it was as if two worlds were about to collide. He was tall, built, undefeated in battle and had a well known reputation for being a violent warlord. She was a delicate, ethereal exiled princess who knew little of the ways of men.

The beginning of their marriage was a trial - Dany did not know the language, Dothraki customs and was not at all happy at sharing the marriage bed with Khal Drogo. Once tutored by a Dothraki handmaiden, she came to understand and value the power of female sexuality to enslave her warlord husband. It certainly worked and because she learned the language, adopted the mannerisms and the traditional garb of the Dothraki women, Khal Drogo came to respect his wife and cherish her.

It made me so sad to see that their union would not produce any children and that she would be left a widow, heart broken and lost in the world. All Dany was left with was her three petrified dragon eggs and the memories of her beloved Khal Drogo. You have to hand it to this woman: she still led a small horde across the Red Waste in order to try and save them and start anew. In her heart, no one will ever take the place of her beloved Dothraki prince, Khal Drogo.

"My sun and stars, moon of my life."

Survival

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

The episode "The Old Gods and the New" had a distinct theme throughout: what one must do in order to survive in the world of Westeros. Robb - wants to head back north to Winterfell to avenge Ser Rodrick's death and take care of Theon Greyjoy.

Brandon - desires to save the people of Winterfell but not wanting any harm coming to them.

Theon - still trying to prove what a man he is to everyone around him - often - with fatal results.

Osha - doing what it takes to survive in order to escape.

Arya - trying to be as stealthy as she can in order to gain inside information while using magic to get rid of her enemies.

Sansa - who comes to the realization that the world is not all fairy tales and perfect romances.

Tyrion - who is desperately trying to prevent open war and rebellion while at the same time trying to outmanouevre his cunning sister, Cersei AND trying very hard not to beat the living tar out of his stupid nephew, Joffrey.

Daneyers - trying to claim back the Iron Throne from a world away, with no ships, no armies and worst of all - no dragons (they've been abducted).
