Hi there. I'm trying to figure out how I can enhance my "Winds of Westeros" blog. So far, I have added a Feedjit Live Feed to it. I like to see where people visit from. Always nice to know that people from all over check out my humble little blog. As well, I will take more pictures (when the occasion calls for it) and will post more images (of course I do not own them and will make the disclaimer known) as they appear.

Now that we all have to wait another 10 months until the premiere of "Game of Thrones: A Storm of Swords," I was thinking of all the things I'd like to post about. Here is what I came up with so far:

I feel that these ideas for my blog will keep me occupied for a while.

Well, not anymore! He has some beautiful portraits of the characters in "A Song of Ice and Fire: A Game of Thrones." Well done, sir! *loud applause*

I am so going to follow this guy on Twitter! I love anything and everything associated to George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones series! Please, if you follow my blog, take the time and click on the link called "John Picacio Website." This man is VERY talented!

Seeing as how I have a lot of free time on my hands (I'm an unemployed teacher who has been avidly looking for work the past year and a half while applying everywhere and volunteering where I could), I find that logging onto Pinterest is quite fun.

Except the fact that the rest of my boards are sadly neglected. They all have an average of 100 to 150 pins. Except "A Song of Ice & Fire: A Game of Thrones."

1573 pins isn't excessive. Right?!

Happy belated name day to Liam Cunningham, who portrays Ser Davos Seaworth! (hopefully we'll see you in A Storm of Swords) His actual birthday is on June 2!

From the moment the lights dimmed in my basement, the tension and suspense hung in the air.

I'm talking about THE season finale event of the year on HBO. "Valar Morghulis" - the Valeryian phrase that Jaqen H'gar says to Arya Stark has a deeper meaning, but that will make itself known in A Storm of Swords, which will debut April 6, 2013.

Where to begin: Tyrion. He was grievously injured at the hands of the late Ser Manden Moore, the Kingsguard captain to Joffrey. Only it was that witch, Cersei, who instructed Ser Manden to strike Tyrion down if the opportunity presented itself. Tyrion put a wall up around himself in this episode, not wanting pity and not wanting to leave King's Landing because he knows how to outwit, outfox and survive the rest of the people that play the Game of Thrones. Bronn was released from his post of Captain of the Kingsguard by Tywin or Cersei. His warriors from the Mountains of Vale went back home, paid off by his father. His sister wants his dead. He recieved no credit for the attack on Blackwater Bay. Varys informed him of the many changes that took place while he was unconscious. None of the changes were particualrly good or to his benefit, either. The only consistent person so far has been Podrick Payne, his loyal squire. Even Grand Maester Pycell was acting like a total jerk, making fun of Tyrion's size and commenting on how he does not need a spacious living quarter. I can't stand that Maester. He is an awful man and I hope karma comes back to him! Shae wasn't particularly happy with his decision to stay, but that just builds up more tension for Season III.

Meanwhile, back the throne room, Tywin Lannister was proclaimed 'Saviour of the City' and official Hand of the King, now that Tyrion is out of commission. In another bold move, Littlefinger became Lord of Harrenhal, for his shady dealings of bringing House Tyrell into the Lannister fold. Ser Loras, in a stunning move, asked King Joffrey to make sure his sister, Margaery, was wed to a noblemen of House Lannister...and who more fitting and high then the good King himself? But wait, Joffrey the Sweet remembers he is affianced to Sansa Stark. Once the small council reveals that he is free to break off with Sansa, due to the fact her father was a traitor and her brother is in open rebellion against the Lannister faction, a new alliance is forged. There is more to Margaery then meets the eye. Cersei may regret having Margaery Tyrell as a daughter in law. Sansa, thinking her troubles are now over, turns from the throne room, smiling and crying over her good fortune. Littlefinger quickly comes to tell her the reality of her new found freedom: Joffrey will not let her go back to Winterfell, in fact, she is now at the mercy of the King, both physically and sexually. She is repulsed and frightened. Littlefinger promises to try and help her. He also sees right through her act and informs her that everyone in the Lannister court is a much better liar.

Varys the Spider pays a visit to Littlefinger's brothel in order to procure information from Roz. He knows that Roz is scared of Littlefinger, as she should be but Varys is more interested in protecting her and making her somewhat of a spy. Together, they could find out Littlefinger's weaknesses and make him pay dearly. And I totally like the sound of that!

Brienne of Tarth is escorting Jamie Lannister back to King's Landing. Brienne has to put up with Jaime's stupid and rude endless rantings and ravings. One their way they see three dead bodies hanging from a tree. She wants to the do the honourable thing of burying them when three men approach, wanting to know their business. Quick witted Brienne and Jaime come up with a plausible tale that he is being brought back to Riverrun on a theft charge when one of the men recognizes the Kingslayer.  What happens next is that two of the men are quickly dispatched at the hands of Brienne, who is extremely skilled with the sword, knife and dagger. The last man does not fare so well. After all, he was the loud mouth who boasted that, "Two of them we gave quick deaths." Meaning the last woman hanging was probably raped before she was killed. Well, what goes around comes around and Brienne kills the man slowly, with precision. Jaime looks on, stunned at her stealth and skill. Perhaps the Kingslayer will watch what he says from now on.

Ayra, Hot Pie and Gendry are long gone from Harrenhal when they spot the mysterious Jaqen H'gar standing on top of a small hill. He tells her that she should consider coming to Braavos with him. As much as she really wants to, and learn his mysterious and powerful skills, she really wants to find her brothers, mother and sister. This young girl has been through the ringer, being separated from her family, seeing her father being executed and suffering from the constant threat of violence or starvation at the hands of cruel Lannister guards. Instead, he gives her a very unique coin and should the day come that she needs to seek him out, she is to give that coin to any man from Braavos and repeat the key phrase, "Valar Morghulis." Only then will she be able to connect with him again. In a seamless display of his magical talents, she repeats the phrase one more time and as he turns to leave, he looks back at her one more time. Only it isn't Jaqen's face she sees. It is another man, but his voice. Jaqen is dead. Valar Morghulis.

Robb is suffering from a burning love for the Lady Talisa Migear. This does not sit well with his mother, Lady Catelyn Stark. After all, there is that little thing called a 'betrothal contract' that was made in Season I. They needed House Frey's support and the wily old man made sure to arrange betrothals of a son and daughter of his house to Robb and Arya of House Stark. This is one time where Robb REALLY should've listened to his mother, no matter how upset he was over her releasing Jaime Lannister. Typical man, he was thinking with his loins, instead of his brain. This is another example of yet another Stark starting another war because of a very stupid error. First it was Catelyn, by accusing Tyrion of trying to kill her son Bran, based on circumstantial evidence. Now, it is Robb, who wants to marry for love. He has brought impending doom for his House by marrying Lady Talisa.

Dany, Ser Jorah and her Dothraki comrade go to the House of the Undying, in order to rescue her dragons. She finds a way in but the two men do not. She goes up a winding staircase and hears her dragons. She enters one room, only to see a few doors. She picks the one to the right. She enters what looks like King's Landing, but it's been partially destroyed and it is snowing inside. She walks towards the Iron Throne and almost touches it. In the background, she hears her dragons. She moves towards another exit and finds herself in the midst of a snowstorm up in the north, at the Wall. The snow is almost blinding. She sees what looks like a small dwelling and slowly approaches. As she gets closer, it resembles a Dothraki tent. In a startling discovery, she finds her beloved Khal Drogo sitting there, waiting for her with their son, Rhaego. She thinks she is already dead and that this image is not possible. He tells her she is his everything. They both look down in wonder at their child. Alas, sadly it is not meant to be. She tells him, "Until the sun rises and sets in the east, you will always be my moon and stars." The dragons beckon. She finally returns to find the warlocks of Pree with her dragons, chained to the middle of the room. Dany is not going without a fight. They picked the wrong woman. "Drakaris." With that one word, her dragons are able to breathe fire towards the warlocks and through her, the flames increase with such heat and intensity, that the warlocks are destroyed. Treachery is found - her handmaiden and Xaro are proven to be frauds and locked in that big old empty vault, forever.  Dany and crew take what gold and jewels they can and decide it is time to purchase horses and ships.

Jon Snow and Qhoren Halfhand are making their way to Mance Rayder, along with a group of wildlings and the Lord of Bones. Qhoren antagonizes Jon and forces him to fight. The Lord of Bones decides to let the two rangers fight each other. Qhoren wants Jon to infiltrate Mance's army. In the end, Jon kills Qhoren and you can see he is clearly conflicted with what he had to do in order to survive. Before Qhoren died, he leaned into Jon and spoke of the Brothers of the Night's Watch: "We are brothers, until the end." He sacrificed himself so Jon could go on. Ygritte tells the rest of the wildings, "You can tell Mance that this was the man to take down Qhoren Halfhand." They all look at Jon with awe, perhaps respect, now that he has shown fierce fighting skills and bravery. Jon looks at Ygritte, sorrow and shock in his eyes. She takes him towards a cliff and says that it is time for him to meet Mance Rayder. Below them is a huge valley and in that valley look to be like thousands of cottages or houses. Mance Rayder is building an army, but for what purpose? When will they strike? Whom will they fight?

Theon Greyjoy: I just cannot stand this character. He is a liar and a traitor.  Trapped in Winterfell, surrounded by 500 of Ramsay Bolton's men, he has no choice but to surrender. He refuses to do so, as he is iron born. Maester Luwin informs him that should he run, he could always go to the Wall, where a man's past transgressions no longer count. He advises Theon that there are secret passages below Winterfell and he could slip out at night and make it north to freedom. What happens next is another round of betrayal. He gives a rousing speech to his Iron Island comrades, only to be knocked on conscious and be taken out of Winterfell. Unfortunately, his first lieutenant stabs Maester Luwin with a sharp spear, knocking the old man to his knees. They all leave and Maester Luwin falls over, bleeding heavily. Osha, Hodor and the two boys with their dire wolves come out sometime later to discover that Winterfell has been sacked and is burning. Worse, the wolves find Maester Luwin in the Godswood, in a semi-sitting position, but extremely weak, due to blood loss. The boys burst into tears, as they do not want to leave him. Bran wants to get him his medicine. What Maester Luwin says next made me burst into tears - "They didn't burn you. I pulled both of you out into this world and I have spent nearly every single day with you. And for that I am glad." Rickon is openly sobbing. Maester Luwin pleads with Osha - he tells her that the boys must be taken north because there are too many enemies in the south. He advises them all to go back and get as much food as possible, to put on extra clothing and make it quick because at any moment, someone could show up and kill them all. As Hodor takes the boys and wolves to get the supplies, Maester Luwin refuses Osha's suggestion of milk of the poppy. Instead he looks at her dagger with meaning. She delivers him a quick death and puts him out of pain for good.  They are last seen fleeing from Winterfell and headed north.

Grenn, Samwell and Dolores are out on patrol, collecting dung, as it burns for many hours when making a fire. Sam, in his usual fashion, talks about Gilly. He talks about how she is optimistic, even though she suffered abuse at the hands of her father and thinks that life is still worth living. Grenn and Dolores respond one way or another when they hear the horn blowing. Sam, hearing one blow, is happy....because he thinks Jon and Qhoren have returned. A second horn sounds. Grenn and Dolores pull out their swords. And then the worst sound ever: a third blow of the horn. WHITE WALKERS. Grenn and Dolores run off in one direction. Samwell, his face frozen with shock, sees a snow storm approaching. Only it isn't just snow. He starts to see figures. He can't quite make out what they are yet. Only that he is scared and makes a feeble attempt to run in the same direction as his two companions but at this point, visibility becomes very poor. He hides behind a rock and shakes uncontrollably.  Figures start to come out of the snowy mist. You start to see the blue eyes penetrate the snow. The White Walkers. For thousands of years, everyone south of the Wall scoffed at the notion that they even existed. The Brothers of the Night's Watch knew differently.  As Samwell realizes that this could be the end for him, he hears a noise and looks to his right. He sees a zombie like horse with red eyes and a dead White Walker on top. Only he is not alone. Hundreds of them are wandering, with a dead, glazed look to them. Their eyes are glowing a piercing blue colour. When the camera pans to a wide screen zoom, all of a sudden you see more then hundreds, quite possibly thousands of them are walking along, towards the Wall. Another look at them and you'll notice that they were all dressed differently. Some had the Wildlings garb on. Others looked as if they were from the forests. Some of the White Walkers were former Brothers of the Night's Watch. Samwell is petrified, trapped and surrounded by them. He closes his eyes and begins to cry in earnest, as they all walk past him. He is all alone, no weapons, no army and no obsidian.

Obsidian. Why would he need obsidian? Stick around until April 6, 2013. Then maybe I'll tell you.

Maybe.

Dear George R R Martin, HBO and the good folks at Trivial Pursuit:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE create a Game of Thrones edition of your board game! I swear that if you do, I will go out and buy two of them!

And if you play Trivial Pursuit the way I do, you will want ME on YOUR team.

At present, I now have 1,086 pins on my Pinterest A Song of Ice and Fire: Game of Thrones board.

Yes, I love the books and the HBO show.  I also have quite the following, which I find is quite flattering and humbling. Lots of followers, lots of re-pins. NIIIIICE.

I had a VERY pleasant surprise last night.

I found a little package with a bow on it, on the kitchen counter. Inside: the Playstation 3 game: Game of Thrones!! The official game guide was also in the package.

I got home late last night and was unable to start playing and reading. However, the weekend is almost here. I will start my journey on Saturday afternoon! Can't wait.

Like any devoted fan of Game of Thrones, you will find the novels in my house, stacked neatly on my bookshelf. Actually, truth be told, I have two sets of them. I have the large novels that were signed by George R R Martin himself and then I have another set, so if any friends or family members want to borrow them, they can.  I also have a lot of pictures from the book signing. I have the first graphic novel, too.

I'm going to purchase the drinking steins from Chapters. I have two copies of Rolling Stone Magazine - the one with Peter Dinklage on the cover - also included in the bookshelf.  I have the first season on Blu-Ray DVD and it'll only be a matter of time before I purchased the brand new PS3 Game of Thrones game.

Either I am a devoted fan or I have way too much time on my hands. I told my husband that whenever my birthday or Christmas rolls around, any gift that is Game of Thrones related is a good one to get. You won't go wrong in that department.

Alas, I digress (apologies for doing so). So, I'm on Facebook, Twitter and have this blog. I decided, about a month ago, to join Pinterest. I have about 9 boards. The one that I'm most proud of (of course!) is "A Song of Ice and Fire: Game of Thrones."  I have 304 pins to my credit. Before the day is through, there'll be at LEAST 25 more!

What can I say? I am in love with all things wonderful, wacky and whimsical....when it comes to A Song of Ice and Fire!

You CANNOT POSSIBLY TEASE ME WITH THIS KIND OF LEAK!!!!! Not fair!

I heard an interesting rumour. HBO, as we already know, has green lit Season III (also known as "A Storm of Swords"). But.....I heard that because A Storm of Swords is so majorly action packed and contains so many story lines and arcs, that Season III will be split into two Seasons! As in Season III Part A and Season III Part B!

OMG! This is better then Nutella! And for those of you that know me, you know I LOVE my Nutella! Saying that Season III's "A Storm of Swords"  is better then Nutella, on my part, is absolutely out of this world! If this is the case, not only is it a major bonus for fans, it's also fantastic for HBO and their screenwriters. Not to mention, the wonderful George R R Martin gets extra time to keep plugging away on "The Winds of Winter."

If I could ask for one thing, it would be that this rumour turns out to be true!

Ok.

Seriously.

What is there left to say?!

I was riveted in my seat from the moment the episode "Blackwater Bay" started, right up until the end. I yelled at the television a few times (I have a realllllly big flat screen television). A few times I cheered Tyrion on. At times I insulted Joffrey (what else is new). I had my "Clash of Kings" book beside me. I had my Twitter feed going and could see all the hashtag trending going on, with respect to the Game of Thrones Twitter feed.

Joffrey, you are a moron. The Hound, you have a soft side for Sansa but are loathe to admit it. Besides, you've had it with the Lannisters. Can't say that I blame you, either (with the exception of Tyrion). Tyrion, you had to take over and become the figurehead of support, to instill some bravado in the army, seeing as how Joffrey tuck tailed and ran off like the coward he was.  Stannis, you fool. While I understand that you have a good claim to the Iron Throne, was it necessary to sacrifice so many men, all for the sake of domination? Ser Davos, you're a practical and brave man, but unfortunately, all your years of experience couldn't save your son. Shae, I have to give you credit where it's due. You have a steely exterior, most likely in part of trying to survive your tender years and growing up in Westeros. I kind of have a grudging admiration for you now....but don't forget, I've read almost four books in the series.

Tywin, you clever, sly fox. You have the Tyrells in your midst and have them fighting for you. Hmm. I think you liked Littlefinger's rationale from a few episodes back. I hope Loras has good sense to see in time, he'll end up paying down the road for joining ranks with the Lannisters. Varys, you set a sombre tone. More like ominous. Bronn, you're a pretty tough guy. You and the Hound have unfinished business.

Sansa, you still want to believe that people have good intentions. The Hound offered you your freedom. As well as some pretty blunt advice.  Even though you went to pray for everyone and told Tyrion you'd pray for his safe return, c'mon, did you really think the Imp totally believed you? Mind you, the look on Tyrion's face was one of amusement and belief. I think he understands that Sansa has to do and say what she must, to stay alive. And of course, I can't forget to mention that immoral drunk (no, not Robert, because he's dead) Cersei. What a pathetic woman. She has stooped to new lows, even when I thought she couldn't get any lower. Such touching concern she showed for all in Maegor's Keep. My favourite is how she just kept on drinking and telling Sansa what would and could potentially happen, should King's Landing fall. Disgusting. She is the last person that I would keep the faith with!

Tyrion. What can I say? I'm glad that Podrik slew Ser Manden. Of course, what can you expect from Joffrey's personal Kingsguard? Backstabbers!

Hard to believe there is only one more episode left. Then, us fans will have to wait until April 2013 for Season III...

I've been thinking, while I was driving around today, running some errands. When I think of Game of Thrones, my mind is filled with all sorts of possibilities. But that's a whole other blogspot.  In honour of tomorrow night's EPIC episode, "The Battle of Blackwater Bay," two songs come to mind.

The first was Thin Lizzy's, "Jail Break," because there are several lyrics that are very appropriate for tomorrow night's battle sequences. The second song - and probably more ominous - is AC/DC's "Hell's Bells." Why that one, you ask? Well, um, hello?! Seven Gods in Westeros - the Old and the New....and because there is going to be a lot of action that goes down tomorrow night.

Some of the characters are going to survive. Others won't be so lucky. Certainly...some characters deserve to go to the deepest, darkest hell in Westeros, for all the misery and destruction they've caused in the last two seasons.

(I am aware that by rooting for the Lannisters, I am leaving myself open to criticism) I want to make it perfectly clear that I am NOT rooting for Prince Joffrey. Tyrion, show your animal side. After all, your sigil is a lion!

T-minus 34 hours and counting!

I just finished reading the full length article in Rolling Stone magazine that features Peter Dinklage, also known as Tyrion Lannister, and it was amazing. His sense of humour - more to the point - his deadpan lines are hilarious. I am happy that Peter Dinklage won both the Emmy and the Golden Globe for his portrayal of the Imp.

I bought two copies - one that everyone can read and one that I have tucked away, underneath my bed for safe keeping.  As an added bonus, RS magazine also has an interview with George R R Martin, based on how he came to create the character of Tyrion Lannister and why he was happy that Peter Dinklage accepted the role.

That Emmy and Golden Globe were bestowed on the right actor! Long live Peter!

Lots of action in this episode. Oh boy, where to start. Tywin is bent on defeating Robb. Cersei has returned to her normal, hateful self and fighting once again with Tyrion. She thinks she is so above playing the Game of Thrones, that she has captured and currently torturing Shae. Tyrion is quick not to betray his feelings but realizes Cersei has captured the wrong woman. He promises to help Roz. I hope he does, as she looked to be in terrible condition. Tyrion and Bronn are trying to come up with a defence strategy to combat Stannis.  Stannis is sailing towards Kings Landing with an enormous fleet.

Joffrey is being his usual insufferable self. Varys has discovered that Danyerys Targaryen is alive....with three dragons in tow. The people in the North hate Theon Greyjoy with good reason. He hung the bodies of the two Stark children and displayed them in the front of the castle. They are dead....one would think. Maester Luwin is not convinced, after seeing a fleeting glimpse of Osha. Robb is conflicted, his mother has handed over the Kingslayer to Brienne. His supposed best friend, Theon, has betrayed him by raizing the castle of Winterfell. His sister is held hostage in Kings Landing and his brothers are captive while Theon is still at Winterfell. To top it off, he has to honour a betrothal contract with Walder Frey, marrying one of his youngest daughters, in order to keep peace and friendly relations with the Freys and Starks for political reasons. Easier said then done, especially when he is enamoured of Talisa Migear, who is a nurse and healer, helping out in his camp.

Arya names her final name to Jaqen and he is not pleased with her choice. Arya is a tough, scrappy little fighter who is coming into her own power. On condition that she un-names Jaqen, she wants her freedom to escape from Harrenhal. And as for Jon Snow, well, he is not in a position to do anything now. Ygritte has turned him over to the Lord of Bones and the Halfhand has been captured. They are off to meet the mysterious Mance Rayder. Next week is the EPIC episode - Blackwater Bay and the big guy himself, George R R, wrote this one himself.

I am TOTALLY looking forward to this one! Valar Morghulis!

Okay, we all know that it is almost near impossible to create the Game of Thrones series by staying 100% true to the books. I would say that the screenwriters have done an excellent job so far. They are at 90%, in terms of keeping true to the plot lines.

In various Game of Thrones feeds, there are fans who complain about how Season II is deviating from the actual book. Well, I am not a screenwriter but you have to give them credit where it is due. They have to take what they can from the books but also have a little bit of creative liberty, too. All in all, I am a pretty happy camper with the results.

For those that have read the books and have watched the series, perhaps you've noticed that there are several types of women portrayed: survivor, schemer, prostitute, victim, innocent child or ex-patriot.

Make no mistake: it's a man's world in Game of Thrones. Women are at the mercy of men: noble ladies are dependent on their husbands for safety, their lives endangered by war, the threat of being kidnapped or raped, and the chances of suffering death during childbirth are high. It's a grim, nasty world out there. Women have to do what needs to be done in order to get ahead. Sometimes, that means doing things that are considered "dirty" or "unsavoury."

Catelyn Stark: survivor. She's had five children with her late husband, Eddard Stark. She's the mother of a King (Robb); she's the lady of Winterfell and acts as a counsellor to her son, Robb. It's clear that she loves her children. However, because she's acted as parlay for her son - in speaking to the late King Renly - she has been absent from Winterfell and away from her two youngest sons, Bran and Rickon. She hails from Riverrun, and was part of the Tully clan, before she married Eddard. She had a loving marriage - but the only thorn in her side was Jon Snow, the child that Eddard allegedly fathered outside of their marriage. She lives by her Tully code: "Family, Duty, Honour."

Danyerys Targaryen: survivor and ex-patriot. Her debut in the world was uneventful. As a baby, she was spirited away from Dragonstone, along with her brother Visyers, in order to survive. She was pimped out by her brother and married off to Khal Drogo, a brutal and savage warlord of the Dorthraki tribe. However, her adaptation of their culture and language only endeared her to her husband and their people. Unfortunately, she had a stillborn child and was forced to smother her husband, when he was in a vegetative state. Alone, abandoned by the people, she had no choice but to wander the Red Waste until her tiny tribe came upon Qarth. She's had to be strong for her people, as a good leader must lead by example. She has three 'children' - her three dragons. Once they grow, she will be a force to reckon with.

Cersei Lannister Baratheon: schemer and prostitute. She is constantly plotting to overthrow anyone who gets in her way. Cersei does not trust anyone who isn't a Lannister. Her frustration and anger stems from the fact that she was born a twin, a female and that her role is lessened to that of a princess and she is defined by her gender. She has an unholy relationship with her twin brother and out of it she bore three children. Through incest, those children were produced. Her late husband, Robert Baratheon, did not know or suspect that his three children were not his. Cersei is ruthless and power hungry. She abuses her power. The worst thing this woman ever did was have an incestual relationship with her twin brother Jaime, put her son Joffrey on the throne and stand aside while Eddard Stark was being executed. She stops at nothing to get what she wants and that also includes sleeping with her cousin, Lancel and a few other bannermen to try and get her way. One person who sees through her is Tyrion, her younger brother. Tyrion doesn't accept her lies and calls her on it. She hates Tyrion, because he knows all of her depraved, disgusting secrets.

Myrcella Baratheon: innocent child. Myrcella has a sweet dispostion. It's almost hard to believe that her mother is that monster, Cersei Lannister. She is quiet, dutiful and lives at King's Landing with her mother, uncle and brothers. She is shipped off to Dorne, to solidify a marriage betrothal arranged by her uncle, Tyrion Lannister. Tyrion arranged the match because he was savvy enough to know that they would gain the support of the Martells of Dorne, a rich family, while at the same time, making sure his only niece was safe and out of the rotten environment that King's Landing has become.

Sansa Stark: victim and survivor. Unfortunately, Sansa is a young teenage girl with dreams of courtly love and life. She was raised to be very ignorant: she is trained in the finer arts of needlework and history lessons, court life and chatelaine training to be a dutiful daughter and wife. She used to have fanciful notions of court life - she would be married to Joffrey and have little princes and princesses. Once her father was murdered, se began to see what her life was like in King's Landing for what it really was: she was a hostage.  Before her father died, she caught glimpses of Joffrey's immature and spoiled nature. After Joffrey is placed on the throne, she is under constant threat and attack and has no choice but to acquiese to Joffrey's insufferable tantrums. She becomes numb with duty: she's almost robotic in her nature, declaring she still loves Joffrey and is loyal to him. Look deeper: she's surrounded by enemies (except Tyrion) and she has to do what needs to be done in order to live another day.

Arya Stark: survivor and schemer. Arya is feisty, spunky and fiery. She challenges the norms of her day and dislikes her finer lessons. She embraces her fencing and sword lessons with Syrio Forel. She is quick to size up a situation, especially around her father or brothers. She has a keen sense of intellect, for a girl so young. She is a teenager but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in attitude. Arya held her late father, Eddard Stark, in high esteem and yet, she understood that it was his honour that ended up getting him killed. She buries her fear and replaces it with a searing hot need for revenge. When her father was killed, she was smuggled out of King's Landing for safety from Yoren. On her way to the Wall, she disguised herself as a boy, knowing that it was safer to do so and that nobody would recognize her. With her fiery attitude and sword, Needle, she was quick to befriend Gendry (who just happens to be the late King Robert's illegitimate son and true heir). She begins to formulate a list of who she wants revenge on. She faced her death on many occasions and was able to prevent it. She ends up in Harrenhal, of all places, as Tywin Lannister's cupbearer. She has to be careful the way she comports herself around everyone. As sly as she is, Tywin sees through her act but she is smart enough never to reveal the simple fact that she is a Stark. They come to enjoy each other's company. Tywin likes this little girl with the steely grit in her eyes and she, in turn, likes the fact that he has many conversations - with her and his men - to which she can tuck that information and save it for a rainy day. Valar Morghulis!

Shae: prostitute and survivor. We don't know much about her history, but we know she is foreign. She becomes Tyrion's secret paramour and goes along with him to King's Landing, once Tyrion is proclaimed Hand of the King. She used to be a prostitute but becomes Sansa Stark's handmaiden. She does not trust anyone and advises Sansa to do the same thing, as it is better not to trust anyone, that way you're not disappointed or betrayed.

Roz: prostitute and survivor. The first time we meet Roz, she is with Tyrion. She is a simple country wench, a prostitute with a keen sense for sizing people up. Once she moves to King's Landing, she becomes elevated: she moves up to being the madam, helping out Littlefinger in one of his many brothels. Unfortunately for Roz, she may have 'moved up in the world' in one way, but has been witness to many brutal acts...issued by King Joffrey.

Brienne of Tarth: a new character in a Clash of Kings, Brienne is a knight and loyal subject. She is a survivor and in a sense, an ex-patriot. She witnessed the death of the late King Renly and was accused of his murder, even though she was in love with him and his most loyal subject. Due to her size and stature, she fights with great skill and strength. She is not comfortable being viewed as a genteel lady, but likes the idea of fighting for honour. She becomes Catelyn Stark's personal knight.

Margaery Tyrell: a high born lady that we are introduced to in a Clash of Kings, Margaery is married to King Renly for political reasons. She is a survivor and a schemer. Margaery is highly skilled and tutored for court life. She is beautiful but beyond her looks, she has a shrewd intelligence that will be sharply honed. She is highly influenced by her grandmother. She will become more of a power player in this season and in A Storm of Swords.

Osha: survivor. Osha was taken captive and placed under guard at Winterfell. She ends up helping Bran and Hodor and befriends the both of them. She tricks Theon Greyjoy and seduces him, leaving him in the night, in order to flee under the cover of darkness. She helps Bran and Rickon escape with Hodor and the boys' direwolves.

Ygritte: a wildling and free woman, she is truly a survivor, for she's lived beyond the wall. Fiery in temprament, she's skilled in fighting. She also happens to catch the eye of Jon Snow. She certainly appreciates what she sees in him. And of course, we know he has taken a vow of chastity in order to become a Man of the Night's Watch. The sparks between the two of them are evident. A tale as old as time, it's like watching Adam and Eve. In a word: temptation!

After watching (and rewatching) last night's episode....you had to wonder, who in Westeros truly has honour?

I believe that Ned Stark did, as did Bariston Selmy. I believe that the old bear, Lord Commander Mormont does and Jon Snow possesses it, too. King Robb Stark is also a man with honour, as in evidence by the way he talks to his troops, the way he cares for them and how he listens to his bannermen's counsel. (He really should've listened to his mother's, regarding the Greyjoy's).

I was sad to see Ser Rodrick Cassel die. That upset me. However, it creates the sort of dramatic tension in order to keep the audience riveted to the screen and also instill a fierce loyalty to the remaining Stark crew. Brandon has forced to become a man in such a short span of time, even though he is only a teen.

And Tyrion has his own sense of honour, given who his brother, sister and father are. He truly cares for his niece Myrcella and nephew Tommen, but as for the rest of them, he knows they don't truly respect him because of his "imp" status. And Ayra....how amazing are her scenes with the great Tywin? Even though they are on duelling paths and he (apparently) has no knowledge that she is a Stark, you have to love their banter back and forth. He likes that fact that she is quick to sum up a situation. She likes that she can have a conversation, it is her way of being savvy at gathering information for future use. Also love how Tywin sees through what she says but he enjoys her company.

I went to three Chapters/Indigo stores who did NOT have the brand new RS issue in stock.

Needless to say, that did not make me a happy camper. I was told to come back on Monday, May 14.

I have to admit....I have a serious crush on Peter Dinklage. I find out tonight that he's going to be gracing the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. The issue comes out this Friday. Which means I'm going to purchase several copies and put one away in my Game of Thrones time capsule.

Tyrion, get medieval on someone!!!!!!!!

The episode "The Old Gods and the New" had a distinct theme throughout: what one must do in order to survive in the world of Westeros. Robb - wants to head back north to Winterfell to avenge Ser Rodrick's death and take care of Theon Greyjoy.

Brandon - desires to save the people of Winterfell but not wanting any harm coming to them.

Theon - still trying to prove what a man he is to everyone around him - often - with fatal results.

Osha - doing what it takes to survive in order to escape.

Arya - trying to be as stealthy as she can in order to gain inside information while using magic to get rid of her enemies.

Sansa - who comes to the realization that the world is not all fairy tales and perfect romances.

Tyrion - who is desperately trying to prevent open war and rebellion while at the same time trying to outmanouevre his cunning sister, Cersei AND trying very hard not to beat the living tar out of his stupid nephew, Joffrey.

Daneyers - trying to claim back the Iron Throne from a world away, with no ships, no armies and worst of all - no dragons (they've been abducted).

Officially started reading "A Feast for Crows." This is - for those of you who don't know - the fourth book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, written by George R. R. Martin. So far, it was a little slow for me, I think because I'm still watching the second season and don't want to get too far ahead of myself. Then again, I really do enjoy reading about new characters and seeing how the story line is developing. I'll think I'll just stay the course.

Sometimes, a funny thing happens when I wake up on a Sunday morning. I go downstairs to check out the previous weeks' Game of Thrones episode and guess what?! I see the next one listed. And it's not even 9:00 p.m. yet! That's what I call a victory!!

For everyone who started watching all of the Game of Thrones trailers, I have to say that the best one they came out with was the one titled, "Seven Devils." Why? Because the trailer captures the corruption, the desolation of some of the locations, the isolation some of the characters feel, the peril some of them face firsthand and the sheer determination of the characters. The music in the trailer is from a group called Florence and the Machine. The good folks at HBO could not have picked a more perfect piece of music to reflect the mood for the second season. Thanks to the trailer, Florence and the Machine's "Seven Devils" track on YouTube has picked up a lot more visitors! You go, Flo!
