HBO - Possibility of a Prequel to Game of Thrones?!

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Okay. How freaking AMAZING would it be if Game of Thrones were to continue.....yes, I know. Fans are only getting eight seasons. I will be crying when that day sadly arrives (2018, wah wah wah).

However, I've read several articles that have given me....dare I say? A little trickle of hope? There's been some talk at HBO and apparently the producers and folks at HBO are open and interested, along with GRRM, in the possibility of doing a prequel story line.

You know, A Tale of Dunk and Egg? For those of you who don't know, Google it or order the graphic novels. It's an amazing collection of prehistory before all of the junk about Robert's Rebellion going down.

I would be pretty damned happy with seeing this come to fruition. Yes, it wouldn't be Game of Thrones, but it would be the history of certain events and it would give us a lot better insight to the way the Seven Kingdoms ran politically, economically and socially.

I'm okay with this!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Folks, I am NOT A PATIENT person, especially when it comes to anything news related about Game of Thrones.

You can just imagine my dread and sheer frustration in having to read that Game of Thrones will not be airing until end of April....or worse, the beginning of May.

It seems with the new series Vinyl hitting the television in February, it will end up bumping the premiere of Season Six.

As if winter isn't already long enough. Yeah, I am TICKED about this.

You know, the good folks over at HBO could have Vinyl debut in January. There are seven days in a week. Instead of having it on a Sunday night, why not make it for a Monday or a Friday evening? It would break up the monotany of the week and give fans something else to look forward on a different night of the week.

Of course, this makes sense, so why the hell would they bother doing so? And yes, as a Game of Thrones fan, I am disgruntled and will toss out any suggestion to serve my selfish purposes. Well, too bad, it's my blog and I don't care if I come across being selfish in this regard.

I think a few million fans would agree with me.

I want to Believe....!!!

I swear to GOD, either the folks at HBO are the worst when it comes to keeping a secret OR it's just sheer coincidence that Kit Harrington has been sighted in Belfast.

As in, he was on the same flight as our sexy assassin, Jaqen (Tom Wlaschiha) and has been seen walking around the streets with the actor who portrays Dolores Edd.

C'mon, already!!!!!!! I REALLLLLY want to believe Jon will be coming back in one form or another?!

Jon Snow?

Jon Stark?

Changes

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , ,

Book readers aren't too thrilled with some of the changes that have been taking place on the HBO series.

Let me reiterate that I understand it's a huge challenge to include every single character and every single plot line from book to screen play adaptation.

However, I think it's kind of silly when they don't include ones that fans were strongly hoping for (Lady Stone heart) but end up throwing characters together for the sake of another plot twist (placing Bronn and Jaime together, in order to go to Dorne, which does not happen).

I will concede that getting rid of some of the long winded plots (the endless travels and shenanigans that Tyrion has to undergo in order to get to Daenerys Targaryen) were a solid move. The faster Tyrion is on the move and gets into Dany's inner circle, the better. Same with Margaery and Tommen getting married and making Tommen older on the show. That was a good move. I also heartily approve of Tyrion and Jorah together, as well as placing Podrick and Brienne together. We need some comedic relief and some serious dramatic monologues, and those four are great with both.

BUT REALLY?! SER BARRISTAN and MANCE dying?! David and Dan, what on earth are you thinking?! And you wonder why fans are getting ticked off?!

FINALLY

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , ,

YES.

The Seven are just. The day has finally arrived.

Millions of fans wait in anticipation, huddled together in front of their television screens, with family and friends, to rejoice and watch the Season Five premiere of Game of Thrones.

MAJOR shout out to my cake lady Linda, who made the most amazing cake creation for my get together. Lemon with chocolate cream filling.

A cake worthy of sitting on the Iron Throne of Westeros!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Another book will be released this fall about the tales of Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg (Aegon). I was quite excited to read this on GRRM's blog, 'Not a Blog.'

So, of course, I just had to preorder 3 copies of set book from Amazon, because, well, why not? I already purchased 3 copies of the History and Lore of Westeros that came out this past October. Just more books to ass to my ever growing collection of GRRM stuff.

Who is the Sexiest Book Character?

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , ,

Good question.

Anybody care to comment on who they think is the sexiest male and female book character?

I have a feeling the odds in favourites will be Thor, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Iron Man and countless others.

Although, right now, I can't really think of any other book characters, unless they're from Game of Thrones.

A Complete History of A Song of Ice and Fire

JUST YES!!!!

What arrived at my door today? After days of anxiously awaiting the package, it finally came!

I ordered 3 copies of the new book, "The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones."

Two of them came today and one is on its' way as a gift for someone special: my mother.

I got her into A Song of Ice and Fire books about two years ago. I guess after hearing me rant and rave about the books and the HBO series at how many family gatherings and get togethers, curiosity got the better of her.

I haven't opened my books yet but boy, oh boy is it a beauty! It's a large book, with an appealing burnt orange slash brown colour to it and they are individually sealed.

I can't wait to open it up and start reading the contents. But with Halloween around the corner and my full time occupation of teaching wee little ones, this week is just way too busy to crack the book open.

Friday night, however, is another story!

I'm Recruiting More People

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , ,

Yes, I have been spreading the word to my colleagues about watching Game of Thrones.

Happy to say that two more people are on board.

Because, I'm pretty persuasive.

And more importantly, because Game of Thrones is THAT awesome!

:)

Season 5 & 6 Changes

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , ,

So, I've heard and read a lot about major plot changes for the coming two seasons of Game of Thrones.

It's hard to say what's rumour and what's reality, especially with so many fan sites on the internet.

I've heard that Hodor and Bran will not be part of Season 5. I've heard that they recast the actress who portrayed Marcella Baratheon. I've heard that a major s--t storm is on the way for Westeros, courtesy of House Dorne.

I've seen the new cast members for the various new characters that will be introduced for Season 5. A lot of new faces, particularly from House Dorne. Also heard a tidbit that Mark Gatniss is confirmed to be back for Season 5.

Now, if only I could find out whether or not the premiere date for Season 5 is March 22, March 29, April 5 or April 12?

If anyone knows which one of those dates it is, please feel free to comment. I've seen a lot of fan threads with those four dates. They seem to be the favourites.

Season V Characters Announced

Oh yeah! New faces, new places for Season 5!

Spain will be the stand in location for Dorne. Awesome.

Alexander Siddiq and Jonathan Pryce are going to be in Season 5. I can't wait; I've seen both these actors in films and they both bring a majestic presence to the screen.

And for all the fans who are freaking out about what's going down in Dorne, just think: if you think that Eddard Stark's death set in a motion a chain of catastrophic events, just wait until you meet the infamous Sand Snakes!

SDCC 2014

San Diego Comic Con 2014!!! Last year, I lamented about how I wanted to come to this year's SDCC.

Alas, I cannot. I am working this summer. Maybe next year? I'll post all the links I can find.

I know my older brother wants to make the journey to SDCC. Maybe next year for my 40th! :)

Oh, A Little Bit of This and That...

Lots of speculation about new casting locations. Spain is one. Apparently, another part of Croatia is being scouted, due to its' historical buildings.
I say - Come to Canada!!!
We have something for everyone!
Mountains!
Lakes!
Snow!
Provincial parks!
A province that speaks French and has fantastic food and jazz festivals!
We have different climate zones!
Lots of culture!
Good looking people!

Come on up to Canada, HBO. You won't be disappointed! :)

Another Season Over...

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

I just don't know what to say.

I knew this day was coming. Time has a funny way of marching to a quicker pace when you are truly enjoying something, and at other times, goes at a snail's pace when you are bored stiff.

Tomorrow night is the season finale of Game of Thrones. I have purchased tickets to go see it at a movie theatre. I plan on going early, because the hysteria and mass fandom that will occur, I want to be in the front of the line, rather than the back of it.

I feel as though this season went by so fast - so many plot changes and a lot of things deviated from the books. Friends and colleagues have asked me - "What do you think is going to happen next?" I wish I could answer them, but the truth is that I can't.

I have read all the books but because a lot of material has been cut from the series, it's hard to tell where the focus will be for the season finale.

The title is called "The Children." I have a couple of good ideas as to what will take place. I have 3 big ideas in my head but I will not place any spoilers on my blog.

Here's to the Imp. Long may he live.

Here's to the young wolf pup, Arya. May she grow to be a tremendous assassin and avenge House Stark.

Here's to the Kingslayer. May he stray far away from the evil clutches of his depraved sister.

Here's the to flower of Highgarden. May Margaery best Cersei, personally and politically.

And who knows: maybe the White Walkers are completely misunderstood. Maybe they are meant to clean up the scourge and filth in the Seven Kingdoms.

Still miss Oberyn Martell, tho.

RIP The Red Viper

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , ,

I have told many people - friends, family members and colleagues - NOT to get attached to any characters in Game of Thrones. I guess I don't take my own advice very well.

What a tragic, painful and very grotesque death Oberyn Martell experienced at the hands of that brutal killer, Gregor Clegane.

To quote Ben Kenobi from the very first Star Wars (1978) - "I felt a great disturbance in the force. It was as if a million voices cried out in terror."

So many people are devastated, and with good reason. I have been very cranky since Sunday evening. This was the "Ned Stark" moment of Season III for so many people. I wait on this and trust my gut instinct, for there may be more revealed.

Now, the stage is set for the Sand Snakes. And, as a book reader, let's just say that Oberyn didn't raise his daughters to be pale, shy wallflowers. No, sir. He raised them to be vicious, sly and very cunning.
Speaking of cunning, Sansa was finally learning to take part in the game, rather then be an abused pawn in it.

Arya and the Hound....well, there was ironic comic justice there. Tyrion and Jaime: two heads are better than one and they will have to remain like this in order to outwit, outsmart and outdo that scheming witch, Cersei. And where the wild things are....er, wildlings!!! Ygritte, having a moment of compassion towards Gilly and baby Samwell, well, I was surprised. VERY surprised.

Two more episodes to go. I can't believe it's almost the end!

Toronto 2014 Game of Thrones Exhibition

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , ,

I attended the third Game of Thrones exhibition downtown Toronto. It was good, with lots of props, story boards and costumes from the first three seasons. It also included some new costumes and banners from the fourth season.

My only bone to pick is that it was held at the Bell TIFF Light box. Which is a very small space, especially for something enormous as Game of Thrones.

I had a good time, went strolling through the displays and took over 200 pictures. They also had a new feature - the "Oculus Rift" - where fans stood in line for over 45 minutes to experience a 3-D virtual reality ascension of the Wall. I did it and it was fun but it only lasted 2 minutes.

I enjoyed the exhibition last year - please HBO Canada, make sure you book the Design Exchange. THAT is an event location that is large and spacious and hint, hint: you can have A LOT MORE displays for next year!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Winds of Westeros

Happy 2nd birthday to my blog! :)

I can't believe it's been two years since I started this. Initially, this was a suggestion from my second cousin, as she joking said that I should channel all of my energy into some sort of blog to entertain the masses.

Thank you, Daniela, for planting the seed.

I am looking forward to tonight's episode and see the fall out from the Purple Wedding!

The Purple Wedding

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , , , , ,

Long live the King!

King Tommen, first of his name! In case you didn't already think of this, Tommen is next in line and the only living son left. The BIG difference between Joffrey and Tommen, is that Tommen has no evil bone or thought in his body. We all know how Joffrey was.

So many feelings associated with the epic Purple Wedding. Who killed Joffrey? What was the motive? Who will gain from it? And how well did everyone sleep after knowing that King Joffrey, the sick, sociopath and malevolent King was now dead?

So many things that went on this episode and you can read my episode review of The Lion and The Rose on the HBO Watch website.

A lot of speculation as to who killed Joffrey. Interesting to note that Joffrey went out of his way to deliberately insult so many people at his wedding feast, including his own uncle, his aunt through marriage, his brother in law, his own wife and others.

Wicked respect to Prince Oberyn Martell and his equally sensuous paramour, Ellaria Sand, who boldly put Tywin AND Cersei in the dirt with their pointed remarks. Well played, Oberyn.

The smug sense of satisfaction that I felt in knowing that we wouldn't have to put up with that depraved jerk ever again kept me grinning from ear to ear.

We still have Cersei and Ramsay Snow to put up with. Patience is a virtue. And Karma always comes back.

Always.

SEASON IV Premiere

Author: Anonymous / Labels: , , ,

April 6 arrived.

Season IV, episode I "Two Swords" premiered.

It was 59 minutes in length.

AND IT WAS AWESOME.

While not every single character was showcased, we have to remember that you can only have so many people featured. Highlights included meeting Prince Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand. They are HOT with a capital "H."

Tyrion is excellent; showing us the nature of sympathy and empathy as he tries so hard to be kind to Sansa and all she does is cry and recoil from him. Yes, I get it - she is grieving for what happened to her mother, sister in law and brother. However, Tyrion did not know about it and did NOT give the command. He is the best Lannister, in my opinion.

Jaime and Cersei seem to have become alienated, which is a good thing: hopefully Jaime will realize his twin sister has not been quite so faithful and he'll grow distant from her. She is a malevolent influence on him.

Tywin melting down House Stark's sword "Ice" was symbolic: it shows the fact that House Lannister has crushed House Stark. Or have they?

All sorts of spies abait in King's Landing: Shae longs for Tyrion and doesn't realize that the other handmaid is a spy. Qyburn is the maester of preference, at least with Cersei. I don't blame her in that respect.

Can we say that grandmother Olenna has got major swag? Sending out all the little handmaids of House Tyrell to get the best jewellery was a sly move on her part: House Tyrell will have the best of the best jewels for the Purple Wedding and everyone else will be in the shade. Love that woman. Love Brienne, too, for speaking with Olenna and Margaery. And for holding Jaime responsible to his vow about protecting both Stark girls.

Speaking of which, can we get totally frenzied over Arya and The Hound?!

WHAT UPPPP Hound! The man is a BEAST. He just happens to be 'mentoring' Arya, even if he doesn't consciously realize it. And ARYA!!!!! OMG!!!!

She got her horse AND got Needle back. So, the episode started with two swords: both from House Stark. Will Arya be the Stark that rises from the ashes?

One can only cling to hope.
